Sleeping Duty: Improving Patients' Sleep Health for Enhanced Occupational and Public Safety

Unhealthy sleep, whether related to insufficient quantity of sleep (i.e., sleep deprivation) or poor sleep quality (i.e., sleep disorders), is common and represents a significant public health problem. Furthermore, it is a problem about in which the Institute of Medicine stated "awareness among the general public and health care professionals is low, given the burden." Patients with bipolar disorder (BPD) have an increased prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its numerous component risk factors, including dyslipidemia. Recognition of this fact led to the release of joint recommendations from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the America Diabetes Association (ADA) regarding metabolic assessment and management in patients with severe mental illness. To increase clinician performance against the STABLE measure related to assessment for hyperlipidemia in patients with bipolar disorder who are being treated with an atypical antipsychotic agent.

Credit Information
This activity offers CE credit for:

  • Physicians (CME)

  • Pharmacists (ACPE)
  • Psychologists (APA)
  • Social Workers (NASW)
  • Certified Case Managers (CCMC)

All other clinicians will either receive a CME Attendance Certificate or may choose any of the types of CE credit being offered.
