Statement of Need

Chair Summit offers a uniquely powerful learning opportunity, where clinicians become involved and engaged in every session. The renowned faculty members are Department Chairpersons and experts in psychiatry, neurology, pain, and sleep. The opportunity to interact with the very opinion leaders who are creating tomorrow’s science1 at this three-day conference helps clinicians to fine-tune and begin addressing their educational needs and practice challenges.

Live, expert-learner interaction has existed since the days of Hippocrates’ teaching, and today’s meetings have evolved to use large- and small-group sessions and case-based challenges to clinical apply recent science.

Online articles that highlight a particular diagnosis or clinical intervention are a valuable source of information for clinicians. These brief reviews update the practicing clinician on the latest medical information. These practices are supported by Cole and Glass (2004): “In addition to assisting professionals in staying current, journal readings are one of the most preferred methods of continuing education. … Physicians can gain sufficient knowledge from reading journal articles and … journal reading as part of structured continuing education activities may be educational at all stages of the learning process.”

This is Part Two of a conference synopsis of Chair Summit, highlighting topics ranging from schizophrenia, mood disorders, and smoking cessation, to genetics, a clinician’s online identity and more.
