Statement of Need

Testosterone deficiency (TD) affects approximately 30% of men aged 40 – 79 years. The disorder and use of testosterone (T) repletion to treat it have largely has been largely thought of in terms of the sexual ramifications; however, there are critical implications for low T’s role in broader men's health concerns, including metabolic, body composition, and all-cause mortality. Low T is associated with obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. To provide optimal care for middle-aged and older men, primary care clinicians need to possess working knowledge about the pathophysiology of testosterone deficiency and its associated comorbidities. Clinicians then need to match this knowledge with clinical competence in detecting the condition and employing effective treatments.

To educate primary care clinicians on evidence-based strategies aimed at improving the detection and treatment of testosterone deficiency for better overall men’s health.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:

• Counsel men considering treatment for testosterone deficiency on evidence-based treatment options.
• Monitor men being treated for testosterone deficiency for treatment response, side effects, and adherence to therapy, as recommended in guidelines.
