Statement of Need

In a nationwide survey, 75% of individuals with recent moderate to severe pain had seen a doctor for their pain, yet less than half of those (44%) had received adequate pain control. No uniform perspective or knowledge set exists among providers upon which to base diagnosis and management of chronic pain. Although guidelines exist and numerous pharmacological agents are available for pain management, a large gap exists regarding incorporating evidence- and outcomes-based practice, often resulting in delayed services for pain management and compromised outcomes. Physicians and their medical teams play an important role in educating their patients, families, and caregivers on optimal strategies for safely managing chronic pain.

This neuroscienceCME Medical Simulation challenges clinicians to appropriately assess chronic back pain, develop a multimodal treatment plan and also integrate education in a patient-centric model of care for chronic low back pain.
