Statement of Need

According to the American Medical Association, clinicians must “keep their knowledge and skills up to date throughout their working life; be familiar with relevant guidelines and developments that affect their work; and regularly take part in educational activities that maintain and further develop professional competence and performance.”(1)

Journal publishing has traditionally been the modality to inform clinicians of new emerging research; however, the clinician frequently finds it difficult to “find” the truly important advances. Most clinicians, including academicians, spend relatively little time reading traditional medical journals. For clinicians, journals are usually not the principal source of news that leads to changes in practice.(2)

A systematic review of the medical literature to evaluate the effectiveness of CME in improving knowledge, attitudes, skills, physician behavior, and clinical outcomes by the AHRQ demonstrated that live and interactive activities were the best approaches.(3) The 5th Annual Chair Summit is a one-of-a-kind conference where all presenters are chairpersons of the nation’s leading departments of psychiatry and neurology, presenting cutting-edge neurological and behavioral science education where participants can directly engage these experts.

According to participants who attended previous Chair Summits:

  • “The best from authorities in the field of mental health.”
  • “This was one of the best conferences I have EVER attended. I learned many new, cutting-edge things and enjoyed interacting with faculty and colleagues. Size of audience allowed for lots of clinically relevant questions without intimidation. The quality of lecturers was superb.”
  • “The opportunity to discuss issues and ask questions of experts in psychiatry was helpful to my practice.”
  • “Dynamic lecturers, with information that was not just a rehash of what we already know.”
  • “I love the intellectual/scientific honesty. I learned clinical tips that I can go back and use in my practice right away, and I feel confident it will improve my care and my patients’ lives!”

Activity Goal

To collaboratively evaluate evidence, engage in peer-to-peer learning, and apply evidence to practice to develop individualized management strategies for improved outcomes for patients with psychiatric and neurologic disorders.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this CE symposium, participants should be able to:

  • Integrate best practices into clinical practice, including the latest evidence- and outcomes-based research and clinical data on psychiatric and neurologic disorders, and translate this scientific evidence into daily clinical practice to improve patient health outcomes.
  • Actively engage in unfiltered discussions with experts and colleagues regarding the clinical challenges in clinical practice, and apply new insights and key clinical practice points to the goal of improving patient care.
  • Name three new evidence-based practices that you intend to integrate into a personal action plan that will improve your clinical performance.

The following learning objectives pertain only to those requesting CNE credit:

  • Review the latest best practice and outcomes-based data on psychiatric and neurological disorders.
  • Participate in active discussions with experts and colleagues about the challenges in clinical practice.
  • Devise a personal action plan to improve clinical performance and improve patient outcomes.

Maintenance of Certification (MOC)

Earn CME credit at an informal Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Discussion and Feedback Activity

Maintenance of Certification or MOC. ABPN 10-year Cycle Certification Program. Self-Assessment and Performance in Practice (PIP) programs. Are these phrases familiar to you? Have you heard about this program but still have questions? On Friday, October 11, The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and CME Outfitters will offer the attendees of its 5th Annual Chair Summit a unique opportunity—to receive immediate feedback on your Alzheimer's disease patient cases and your treatment plans for these five patients. If you have already selected your PIP charts and finished their review, you may be in the Feedback Phase of your MOC program. If all this simply sounds vaguely familiar yet incredibly confusing, it is time for you to pre-register for CMEO's MOC program. In the Chair Summit's informal Maintenance of Certification activity, physicians will have an opportunity to receive immediate chart feedback from our expert Chair Summit faculty. If you have already registered for Chair Summit and are interested in this session, your pre-conference homework will be to select five charts of patients in your practice with Alzheimer's disease (AD) from the previous three years for review. During the Chart Review session, you will have an opportunity to share your practices with a faculty member and compare your treatment to published best practices, practice guidelines, or peer-based standards of care. You will have an opportunity to discuss your patients and develop an action plan to implement any recommended changes for ongoing treatment and management of these patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Here is how you get started or continue with your Certification program:

Pre-register for the MOC session by indicating in an email that you will be attending this unique session:
MOC: Alzheimer’s Disease - October 12, 2012 - Day 2 Monring Breakout Sessions, Round 1 - 10:30 - 11:15
MOC: Alzheimer’s Disease - October 12, 2012 - Day 2 Monring Breakout Sessions, Round 2 - 11:30 - 12:15

Please indicate your time preference. Send an email to Joy Leffler at jleffler@cmeoutfitters.com

• Bring your laptop
• Load your electronic records onto your laptop OR print the appropriate documentation and bring this to Chair Summit
• Be sure that your records are de-personalized so that patients' privacy under HIPAA regulations is protected
• Prepare the specific questions that you have regarding your proposed treatment plan for patients with AD
• During the session, you will be able to share your cases with the Chair faculty and receive their direct feedback

We are looking forward to your participation in this unique educational activity, designed to foster continuing professional development and maintenance of ABPN board certification.

Don't forget to bring your laptop!

Faculty

All Chair Summit faculty are renowned psychiatry, neurology department chairs from across the country, with hundreds of years of combined experience as researchers and clinicians. Beyond that wealth of experience, they also truly share a passion for teaching and helping community-based clinicians enhance their care for patients.

That’s why all faculty members are accessible to all attendees.  They answer dozens of questions in every session and on every topic on the agenda, and they participate in other Chair Summit sessions when they’re not presenting. They sit on Q&A panels, they sit right next to you in sessions, and they sit with you during lunch to talk.

That’s hands-on access you only find at Chair Summit.

Our Content

The entire agenda at Chair Summit is developed hand-in-hand with our faculty experts. Every session is designed to focus on topics and challenges you face regularly in clinical practice, as well as research, recommendations and practical guidance that help you improve patient care.

The agenda goes far beyond basic lectures. It’s interactive and filled with hands-on case workshops and Q&A panels. This provides continual opportunities to exchange ideas and ask questions about your own cases, challenges and experiences. In addition, select sessions are designed to meet Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements.

Sure, other conferences offer sessions on topics like chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and sleep disorders – yet only Chair Summit gives you all-day access to faculty so you can ask questions and engage in discussion that personalizes your learning experience.

Our Value

In just two-and-a-half days at Chair Summit, you get a personalized and powerful learning experience that exceeds larger conferences in expensive locations. That means less time away from your practice, insights you can more easily translate to patient care, lower travel expenses, and far more value for the cost.

Check out this Total Cost of Attendance comparison below.
