CME Outfitters Congratulates A. John Rush, MD
Noted clinician, educator, and researcher accepts prestigious AMWA medal

November 7, 2006

Rockville, MD - CME Outfitters, LLC, an independent accredited provider of multidisciplinary continuing education programming and related healthcare communications services, is pleased to congratulate A. John Rush, MD, Vice Chair, Department of Clinical Sciences, Professor of Psychiatry, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX, on receiving the John P. McGovern Medal from the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) at the Association's annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on October 27, 2006. AMWA serves an interdisciplinary membership of medical writers, editors, public relation specialists, publishers, reporters, researchers, professors and other professionals with varied roles in biomedical communications.

The McGovern Medal is awarded annually to an individual who has made preeminent contributions to any of the various modes of biomedical communication. The Award is named for John P. McGovern, MD, an internationally known U.S. physician, philanthropist, humanitarian, and scholar.

Dr. Rush has authored or co-authored more than 470 papers and chapters and 10 books that describe the treatment of depressive, bipolar, and schizophrenic disorders. He is a fellow of the American College of Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and was the principal investigator on the NIMH-funded STAR*D trial - the largest U.S.-funded clinical trial to ever assess the effectiveness of treatments in "real world" patients who have major depressive disorder. In accepting his award, Dr. Rush shared some of his favorite human interest stories surrounding his failures and triumphs in the fascinating world of scientific investigations and publications.

Dr. Rush and CME Outfitters have collaborated in the development of a number of educational activities, including APA symposia, roundtable summits, and slide presentations. Congratulations, Dr. Rush!
